op030sm11 | Sissi Imperatrice d'Austria
Stefano Mitrione at the UK Walles pavilion 2011 Drawings and photographs for a newportrait of Sissi. At the closure of the 54th Venice Biennale,Genoma Contemporary investigatesand historicizes one of most identifying concepts of the whole event. The charm of mystery surroundingthe Guido Giusti’s Amplexus in aere reveals itself, thatis the starting work of art for theGenoma Contemporary video op029sm11, wanted and conceived by Virtualgeo on the art project of Stefano Mitrione. Thework of art by Giusti was just a plaster model for the creation of a bronze group for Elizabeth of Austria. The work of art was started in 1894 and never finished because, few years later, Elizabeth died. So the freezingof Death finds expression in the possibility of an everlasting Love that is vital blood of the work of art itself, is the starting platform for the event that we would like to present. Aseries of concepts, digital drawings that become free-hand sketches, edited photographsof the dresses of the Empress, intersect and overlap in the new reading of one of the most emblematic personality of the 19th century. |
op024sm07, Another Time | Another Space
Stefano Mitrione at the Isa Genzken' German Pavilion 2007 Hannah
Arendt, a German philosopher, said that when people come together and talk, they create a "space of appearance" of tremendous active power in the public realm. This force is born from the human ability to agree with others on the need to act in concert. Hence, these spaces of appearance are spaces of communication, where citizens' interests, needs and strategies are shared. This intention can be evaluated as a way to posit a direct connection between the designers selected from history and the reestablished aesthetics. In this scenario, the introduction of the common acknowledgement serves to ground the narrative in the artist's intention in such a way that it makes the intimate bond between its presence and its referencing serve as an unassailable foundation for the projects being presented. And despite the use of different methods and approaches, this new generation all share qualities tha are often subordinated to this underlying narrative. |

op020sm06, I would like to be a red line
Satellite net performance, printed PVC 57 x 71,6 meters Greenwich Street Parking LLC, 10006 New York courtesy JFC collection USA 2006 The Stefano Mitrione performance points towards a shared space devoid of topographical borders where the criteria of evaluation and the conditions of artistic production are constantly shifting. A message of continuity demonstrating that art knows no bounds or limits, a means of communication between cultures and spaces, and between people from different places. "I would like to be a red line" goes beyond the time and confines of NYC. The viewers find themselves with a choice of various pathways that they can follow independently, concentrating on single event and rediscovering an experience of more human dimension. Performance key concepts 1). A space for comparison and platform for dialogue in which a new image of contemporary international art is experimented. 2). Wrong-footing and subverting traditional concepts of territorial conflicts in evolution. The urbanisation and explosive expansion of urban spaces are now the most dynamic aspacts of a world in transformation. 3). The concept of system reveals the heterogeneous and contradictory nature of modernity. The Utopia within, an idea with a long history, many unchangeable ideologies behind it or rather the non-place that it has always been, a hope for a better future.
